im going to take off the lower unit tommorow night, but i need to disconnect the shift rod. my manual says there should be a bolt to loosen to d/c the rod, but i have 2 screws. can i just loosen both screws to get it off? is there anything i should watch out for here?

replace the cable, loosen the bottom screw, not all the way out. when replacing, make sure it gets back in the correct position, and water tube lines up.

The bottom screw on the connector MUST come out. It goes through a detent in the shift rod.

and dont worry too much about dropping the screw when removing the lu as it'll just be sitting on or near the water pump. but when reassembling it's a pain as you have to drop the lu again.
