I am trying to drop the lower unit on my Mercury 6hp twin serial # 1680135 to replace the impeller and I can only get it to drop 1 inch. What do I need to do to take it all the way off?

Try shifting gears it shoud drop a little look for a small 3/8 or 5/16 bolt head on a small shaft front

Yeah, I can definitely see the 7/16's nut...I can barely get a wrench on it. I'm worried if I remove the nut that gears will fly everywhere. What a pain for such a wearable part. I do see a grub screw on the linkage down by the lower unit. Is this also a way to drop the lower unit?
