Hi all
I need to replace the impeller on my j50belcic, 1981 50hp johnson,
ive never done this before but I'm mechanically self taught, I know about most of the bolts but not sure about how to disconnect the shift rod? And if the motor needs to be in gear or not? If there is a step by step, would help a lot.....
cheers Max

Gear selection does not matter.---------Removing the starter motor makes it easier to remove the shift rod pin.-----Do not turn the shift rod once the lower unit is off.

An OEM factory service manual would really help you for any problems on the motor.

Look at which way the shift rod is orientated, one end bends a bit and i think keeps the hole for the screw slightly one way of centre. It needs to be that way to reinstall otherwise the shiftshaft rubs against the housing and gets stuck
I just undo the shift cable when i do this as it makes it much easier. The worst thing that can happen is that you drop the screw down the hole on reinstall
