Hey guys,
I tried dropping my lower unit tonight but ran into some issues. I have 2000 Johnson 50. I unbolted the lower unit on the bottom but cannot figure out how to disconnect the shifter. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Garrett

Not sure about yours but most are under the carbs. 1/4" drive, knuckle joints and an assortment of 1/4" extensions and you should be able to get to it. Many people take off the carbs for easier access and service the carbs while they are off.

pull the starter(DISCONNECT BATTERY FIRST!) and that will help get to it, facing the front of the boat the bolt is on the left side under the carbs.

As stated, you will need a long 1/4 extension and a swivel to get to it.

Once you drop the lower be sure not to turn the shift rod.
