Re: Drought

The answer is not more dams and water infrastructure. We have too many dams and artificial reservoirs as it is. As a system, there is a net loss of water due to evaporation off these behemoth lakes. Conservation and smart growth planning is the only thing that will divert disaster in many parts of the country. What is happening in Georgia is a fine example of almost criminal lack of foresight and misappropriation of it's water. Completely preventable. Typical reactionary "crisis" management.

Re: Drought

I think I should have gone to Georgia before I did a rain dance. We've been getting a soaker all last evening. Now on this mornings news, we will be getting around an inch of rain today with it changing over to snow tonight.

Sorry guys,,,,,,,I tried.......SS :D

Don't sell your talents short there SS. We've received about 3/4 of an inch here (just east of the Ga. border), and Its still falling.:):) So it may just be your aim. ;):D:D

Re: Drought

It's been raining here since last night. We're glad to have it, but it's not enough to help significantly.

Re: Drought

I am getting worried that there will be no boating next year. I wouldn't put my boat in with all those stumps showing up in odd places. The ramps in many of the lakes are in sad shape. La Nina is suppose to give way to normal(not El Nino or La Nina) after February and when that happened last summer it only rained every 2 weeks. Now it just rains one time a month maybe. We need a strong El nino to change things. El nino does ward off Hurricanes but Hurricane season is chancy any way. The lakes are still dropping slowly but surely and not much rain forecasted. I can't imagine not putting the boat in

Re: Drought

I havent had my boat out in several years and my plans are to enjoy it NEXT spring, but the water may still be too low,,,,,,,I live near a large river and there are only a few places to put in now and then its very risky ....charlotte nc If it stays low my plan is to travel to the intercoastal waterway and take a 2 day trip just by water.

We've usually had one or two tropical storms make their way up from the Gulf by now but not this year. November's about gone and the needed rains didn't come. I think people are just hoping to have enough drinking water.

I think there will be plenty of boats for sale cheap around here come spring.
All of that rain that moved through the southeast last week only gave us 1/10th of an inch...

Re: Drought

Update:

We're far from recovering from the drought, however my boat ramp is back open and the courtesy dock you saw in the pic is afloat once again. I'm not sure if the rain we've been getting lately has brought the lake up of it the Corps are releasing less or a combination of the two. Regardless, I think the lake has came up a few feet.

Re: Drought

I live on high ground... and today my front yard is ankle deep from all the hard rain today. It's been raining a lot lately. With any luck the rain will continue through summer to bring the lakes up even higher than their normal levels... wouldn't mind a great spawn this year to give me lots of good brim to catch next year.
