The ashes of a Madison man were stolen Sunday night from the trunk of his wife's car.
Tom Patterson died three years ago.
His wife, Bernice, keeps part of his ashes in an urn at home. The rest she carries with her in a plastic bag, sprinkling them in places he always wanted to go.
Patterson had the ashes with her Sunday night because the roads were icy and she felt better having her husband's presence in the car.
She was house-sitting when someone broke into the trunk and stole the ashes.
"I think they thought it might have been drugs or something. That's the only thing me and everybody can figure is they thought there were drugs in this car," Patterson said.
