Interesting. When I lived in Louisiana, 20 years ago, there were drive up daquiri shops. My favorite was the DOA. How appropriate. I've changed, I guess LA has too.

DJ, what part of LA did you live? I grew up in the New Orleans/Metairie area and am in Bossier City now.
We still have the drive up daquiri shops here. Now they put a seal over the straw hole to keep you from drinking while driving.

Best yet, if cost is a concern, you can keep costs down by having corporate sponsors depending upon the type of execution.

For example, can you think of a better advertizing opportunity for Crisco than boiling some jackass criminal in oil? Just think of how the existing slogans fit in... ("start something good with Crisco")? Your local electric co-op could sponsor the electric chair ("keeping the lights on" 'while putting them out'), in conjunction with a chair manufacturer ('the last chair you'll ever need'). Who better to sponsor the guillitine than gillette razors ("Gillette, the best a man can get")?

Ok, THAT'S why I can't run for office... my sense of humor would BURY me faster than Howard Dean's war cry and more painfully than a Florida recount.

Just a week ago on Dillion road, a drunk driver failed to stop at a stop sign. He crashed through a heavy re-enforced guard rail, glanced off a tree, went several hundred feet, and crashed competely thru a womans house. It took the police a bit over a half an hour to realize the lady that lived there was under the truck on her couch dead. The operator was drunk and swears that he couldn't get it stopped. He said he wasn't speeding (25 mph zone) but he failed to use the emergency/parking brake, or turn out of the way, or shut the ignition off. Drunks in panic mode fail misserably every time.

I also feel that anyone that does anything while driving is a hazard. Driving is a job on its own and requires 100% of attention.

Taking away their license doesn't work, suspensions don't work, and making alcohol illegal won't work either. 50,000 deaths a year and we have yet to cry as a nation of the loss of life in vehicles. I've heard that 1 in 3 deaths are related to alcohol,,,,,,what about the 2 of 3 that causes death? What was their excuse? I have over 250K accident free miles and have close calls every day because I keep aware of the idiots around me.

Just the other day a guy turned from the right lane to make a left turn while I was in the left lane and on his quarter panel. Luck had it that the side street he was turning down, I managed to get turned onto the street fast enough to prevent him from wiping out the side of my service van. 4 deputies witnessed the event, but yet they didn't even approach him. Bad driving is a sore subject for me. There is no excuse for it period!

They do it because we're not tough enough on them...

Torture and kill the drunk driver that kills someone else in an accident, and televise it on national T.V... there will be 0 drunk driving incidents for months. But of course, we have to live in an "enlightened" society where it's not ok to punish the guilty.

It's like parolling rapists... for every 4 rapists that are parolled, you've condemned 3 innocent women to be raped by them. Rapists should never be parolled, and drunk drivers also need to start paying a heavier price.

I say:
1st DUI, non-accident related - lose your liscense for 5 years
2nd DUI, non-accident related - lose your liscense for life and vehicle seized

Get caught driving on a suspended liscense, go to prison for 10 years and all property seized.

1st DUI, accident related - go to prison for 5 years and lose your liscense for life, if a death was involved, go to prison for 25 years. All property seized and sold with proceeds going to the victim or the victim's next of kin.
2nd DUI, accident related - super gruesome tortuous death penalty to be executed within 1 year of conviction, and televised. All property seized and sold with proceeds going to the victim or the victim's next of kin.


Now you're thinking... thank God almighty he's not in charge... and let me just tell you, you have NO IDEA how many times I've said that myself.

sorry, but that don't work. There are plenty of countries that have similar or worse punishment that what you mention for burglary, rape and such and they still have to deal with them year after year. I haven't met a criminal that commits a crime and it's sure it will be caught. They are always counting they are getting away...
