my brother took his motorbike to work last week and just as he was about to turn in to his workplace some guy in a car doing twice his speed rammed into the back of him knocking him onto the bonnet (hood) and throwing on the road. The guy was so drunk only the bike embedded in the car stopped him ! he then reversed to release the bike and drove off ,leaving my bro for dead on the road ,he was almost ran over by another car in the dark. The guy was soon caught by police as his car was wrecked! My brother was lucky to be alive as his body armour saved him ,although he will be out of work for at least four months and will recieve no sick pay
these are the scumbags charges
.resisting arrest
.no car tax or insurance
.no m.o.t (certificate of roadworthyness)
.braking bail conditions (he has done this recently to someone else)
.Leaving the scene of an accident
.failing to report an accident
.driving whilst intoxicated(drunk)
.Dangerous driving
What happened to him?
he was bailed (again)to appear at a later date and is free to drive for at least a year until he appears at court
is this justice? someboby else will not be as lucky (ha ha) as my brother

Sad case Davemaxi. Glad he is still alive. It sounds like it could well have been different.

This statement surprises me:

"he was bailed (again)to appear at a later date and is free to drive for at least a year until he appears at court"

Over here in the Colonies, most states have a speedy trial law. Has to do with the Constitutional right to have a speedy trial. If they would have given him bail here, he would have had his licence yanked within a months time. That is about how quick he'd be given a trial.

ARGH!!:|

What a swine. No, that insults swine.

In many places this guy would cool his heels at taxpayer expense for a while before going into the slammer for real.

Sadly that has often been the same situation here over the pond.
However groups like Mothers Against Drunk Drivers have pushed legislation that ratchets up the penalties for repeat offenses.

Is there civil recourse you can pursue?

How about the bar? Stateside if an establishment continues to serve a customer that has clearly consumed way too much they can be held liable.

How about a blanket party?

Re: DRUNK DRIVERS!!!!

Hi Dave

What really sucks is that when he gets to court he will probably be banned from driving for a couple of years and fined a few hundred quid, he will walk out of the courtroom and stick 2 fingers up as he climbs into yet another uninsured car and drives home, probably stopping at the pub on his way.

It won't be untill an MP's child gets killed by a DD that the law will be given the power to deal with them accordingly.

Sounds like this guy needs some real jail time to begin to understand, but even that is not going to keeptrash like him off the road. He has already shown that he does not care about the law or other people, he will do it again :/ myself I live on the bad side of town, we would take care of him ourselves
