Quick question.....Im still tryng to hunt down my "noise" Pulled the outer drive off (old shutters fell out) bellows look great my gimbal turns freely but I can tell its dry and pretty sure its toast.....hooked up the grease gun and pumped a few time all the grease was comming out behind the bearing and I can stick my finger in a gap behind it no grease was going into the bearing that i could tell?? Is this normal or was it never seated properly causing it to fail?? Thanks. Also popped the top cap off the drive to inspect it noticed water has been seeping around the large rubber plug and has caused some build up...Is iy ok once I get all that cleaned up to put a little silicone around the plug for some extra insurance??

Gimbal very well could be trashed ,, U say its dry ? Bad thing... To bad u have the drive off allready and have added grease. A good troubleshooting method for the gimble is to have the engine running and pump some grease into the gimble zirk and listen to how much the sound changes Even a trashed bearing will quit down temporarily [usually] If the -noise doesnt change u then suspect u-joints or something else
U didnt explain when the noise happens,,, Need a bit more info

Re: Dry Gimbal

It's a gimbal bearing not a "GIMBAL" there are also gimbal rings and gimbal housings. No such thing as a Gimbal on these boats.

Having said that, if it's dry, and making noise, then the damage is already done and the bearing needs replaced.

Re: Dry Gimbal

Sorry Don....still learning about theses boats and how to oost threads..... Ill be more specific next time! Thanks Paul I'll remember that trick... The noise started when I was On my way back from a fairly long trip.... At first I thought it was a valve cover or manifold gasket started leaking.. Ruled that out then moved on to the shutters... It's a metallic ?clicking? From the back. Sound gets louder and faster with increased idle and is slightly more noticeable with the boat in gear and in the water (can't hear it on muffs) well the shutters were completely gone.... So that's how I wound up pulling the drive for a closer look.
