Re: Dryer Dilemma

Ladyfish -- I've been having the same problems with an older GE electric dryer. This past week I checked the vent outlet, the hose, and the outlet on the back of the dryer. All were clear and airflow seemed good. I checked the voltages at the receptacle and the terminal block and both were good.

I removed the front of the machine and checked the heater elements for continuity, they checked OK. I removed any loose lint that I could see inside of the dryer and also removed lint from the blades of the blower fan. Each blade had about 1/4" of lint covering it.

After checking the switches I found a diagnostic chart in the control panel which described airflow through the machine. Hot air enters the drum from the back and exits through the door and down through the lint trap. There was the problem. The inside of the perforated door liner was covered with a layer of lint. This lint effectively blocked airflow through the drum. The first test load dried in about 55 minutes as opposed to the normal 90 minutes plus.
