Hey guys, got a pair of boats to look at. One with the dt 140, needs carb work. Not sure of the year. The other an '87 115. Says it runs fine. What can I expect as far as parts go? Which of the two may be the better motor? The 140 comes with another motor, missing the lower unit..both cheap boats ($1500).
Any help, suggestions or comments welcome! Thanks....Rick

Do you know the year of the first motor. If it is pre '86 some parts are difficult to get.
The 87 is ok. There does not appear to be any aftermarket parts for these motors except pistons from Wiseco. You can check on parts availability and price at brownspoint.com.
Plug in to the parts. I have rebuilt several 115s and run a '94 140.115 and 140 blocks, cranks, pistons and other parts are the same '86 thru '95. Great motors and easy to work on. The electronics do all the work and they are amazingly reliable.
Good luck.

I bought the 1987 Dt 115 last summer for my boat. Happy with the motor, stars up and runs everytime like a champ. The original owner did not even replace the impeller since new but it had a good pee and better than new compression in all cylinders.

Halas.
Please don't risk blowing a beautiful motor by ignoring the Impeller. It is so simple to do on the Suzuki. Replace the lower unit oil at the same time.
I check the oiling system every spring and use Pensoil Synthetic Blend. Makes less smoke and I rate it tops along with many other users. Checking the oiling is a little more complicated but once you know, it is easy. A manual is a blessing. Always use Stabil in your fuel and you should have no carb problems.
Great motors.

James,
I did all that thanks for reminding. I was surprised however that the original impeller looked like new when I replaced it with the new one.
