Re: Dt 140 overheat issue fixed??? 98

I don't know if anyone involved in this thread is still out there but I could really use some help. I have a 204 Angler W/A with a 99 Suzuki DT140 that has had an overheating issue that has been ongoing for over a year. Here is what's been done.
Replaced water pump, impellar, theromostat, pressure relief valve under the powerhead, water tube bushing .
Removed heads and exhaust covers...inspected all water jackets (ok).

It continues to overheat when running above 4,000 RPM. From 4,000 on down I can run all day. Someone mentioned using JBweld under the exhaust tube?? Any chance you have a picture or could explain further? I found this thread and think this is my problem. HELP!

Thanks in advance,

Chesboater,
Did anything in your setup, prop, etc. change or did the overeheating just start a year ago?

What does the http://store.brownspoint.com/dt140/fig020-1408601.asp #26 drive shaft housing look like? If it is pitted it could be part of the problem. I have two lower units. One works fine and the other one overheats. The only difference with the one that overheats is the dsh is more pitted.

I also found that I needed to run with my 4 blade prop instead of one of my 3 blade props. I had a jack plate installed soon after I bought my boat a couple of years ago and the engine setup is not quite right but it does run shallower. The 4 blade seems to help pull the boat back down into the water.

I've had the boat for 5 years and never had an issue until late last season. Nothing in the "rig" changed. I will have to remove the lower unit again and have a look around to see what type of corrosion is/has occured. Won't be able to do it until next week. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Read post #16 above. You need to look closly at the rubber parts around the exhaust chamber in the LU. Also, if there is severe corrosion causing any one of the passages to leak over into the other, that could be a problem too.

If you're still having the overheat problem, I'm the one who used the JB Weld to fix my problem. So far the the fix is holding strong and I have had no problems. I'll walk you through what I did if you still have the issue. I'll check back on the Forum to see if you respond.
