i had the boat out last weekend and it ran great till its last splash. Started the ol girl up and the lil beeper never quit beeping. dash says its no water but its still spraying like a garden hose and the water pump was replaced when the motor was rebuilt last year. could this be just a bad sensor or something more serious?

OK upon reading lots of threads there must be some kind of float switch somewhere.. where would I find this switch. should the contacts be open or closed normally when it is located

Re: dt115 float switch

If it is the water light you may have a bad thermostat. What float switch are you questioning?

What year model do you have? The older ones before '96 or so have a water flow sensor on the head. It can be removed and tested with an ohm meter. The Browns Point Marine site is slower than Christmas today or I would send you a link to the parts break down. Not saying for sure but this could be your problem.

Re: dt115 float switch

its an 87. don't think its a t-stat but not saying that for sure. it still pees plenty of water and the cylinders feel cool to the touch while running in the lake. wondering of the flow (float??) switch would be located on the head. I'm an electrician so testing shouldn't be a problem but locating the right part and knowing if it is supposed to be open or closed would be a good start. thanks in advance for the help.

Re: dt115 float switch

Still can't access the parts breakdown on line but... the switch is black plastic with two wires coming out of it located on the back head of the engine closer to the top. It is held in with two phillips screws.

I don't have one on my engine but I have heard you can bypass it. I'm not sure if you can simply disconnect it or you have to make a jumper to bypass it. Because your engine does not have a temp sensor you could be risking overheating by disabling the sensor.

The thermostat is located on the back of the engine top left. It is held in place with 4 - 10mm bolts. It would be worth looking at it if you have never inspected it.

Re: dt115 float switch

I am replacing mine on the 1988 DT115.
It will brake when you are removing it .
Order new one: part #34870-94630 The dummies call it "sensor cooling water temp" when it is really an on-off switch that has a flapper activated by the water flow.
The gasket does not come with it: part# 34875-94660

Re: dt115 float switch

well.. mine did not break when i removed it. you can move the flapper back and forth with no change in any readings on the meter. I think i can safely assume that its bad. The t-stat was replaced last spring with the power head rebuild along with the water pump. Like i said earlier, it does not run warm. its even cool to the touch. the beeper keeps beeping just like when you turn on the switch without the motor running. it is not a solid tone indicating an overheat. still having a hard time finding the right page with the part i need on it for a part number though... thanks for the help guys.. much appreciated..
