Re: DT175 Problems

Skid,

I don't have my book in front of me, but I recall there were two seperate groups of wires coming from the module. I just followed the wires from the module until I reached the plugs for them where they plug into the CDI unit wiring harness and unplugged them there. I left the wiring to the switch alone. I don't beleive shorting the switch will do any good. If I had a copy of the wiring diagram I could give you better info.....

-Rob

Skid - Is your motor running yet? After all of the hard work your have put into the trouble shooting I was curious to know what the problem was.

Re: DT175 Problems

Sorry for the long delay in my respose but I've been vacationing with the "Big Dogs" in San Destin. No Its still on dry ground. I've tested everything I know to check and ohm'ed every switch and sensor per my Clymer manual and can't find a problem. I will bring it to the dealer soon and let him fight this beast. I really need to check the peak voltage per the manual but this is one tool I do not own

Re: DT175 Problems

This may be no help to you, but check my posting of 8-4 on my '86 DT140 only running on 2 cylinders. I was dealer-diagnosed with a twisted crank between 2 and 3. I'm trying to get a second opinion since the crank lists at $1200 and the repair totals $2600. I just checked the 1988 DT175 parts data from Brown's and these had multi-piece cranks too. Dealer told me they changed crank design in '85 from traditional one piece, rod/cap design to fully caged roller bearings thereby necessitating the pressed cranks. It's a rare problem he said, but he's seen them. But then again, remember Joe Blitzvik in Lil Abner? Good luck
