DT85 oil leak?????

I hope someone can help...I have a 1987 DT85 that came with the 17' hydra-sport I purchased last season. My problem is that I keep getting oil stains on the port side of the shaft...any ideas on how to correct this?

what shaft are you speaking about, can you post a picture?

sorry, it is actually on the port side of the lower unit. It may be oil leaking throught the exhaust, I just don't know how to check to see exactly where it is leaking from. I will try to post a pic in the next day or two. Thanks for any help!
