Bought a used 2009 Tahoe 215 on a dual axel trailer. Noticed the one side of the trailer tires had been run underinflated as there is wear on the outside the other side looks ok

was thinkiing about only buying 2 tires mounting them and putting them on the back and have the older tires mounted in the front.

good idea, bad idea? just trying to save some money and buy the other 2 next year

buy 2 new ones and mount em on the same side.... that way nobody will see that they are mismatched..... being a trailer, it makes no difference where they are mounted functionally.

Not likely you'll blow both tires on one side, old or new, but more likely than blowing two new tires at the same time. I like your idea.

if you blow two tires on one side or two tires on one axle or one tire on each side AND each axle makes no difference... you are still in the same boat (pun intended) ....... will need two spares to move the trailer

How old are the tires? If they are older than 5 years, just replace them.

Thanks for all the feedback, I imagine that with an 09 the tires are at least 4 years old and maybe will be 5 years old.

The tires are a Trail America tire and I've read some forums on them both good and bad, all of which to me seems to come back to proper inflation and that didn't happen or else I wouldn't be bald on the outside of the tires right now.

I like the idea of just being on one side so no one can see that they don't match.

Re: dual axel trailer needs two tires

When I was in my early 20's I bought a full size chevy blazer on 33" mud tires for $450 and beat the snot out of it for several years... After I had owned it for over a year was when one of my friends noticed that one side was spray bombed black but the other side was dark gray.... It was news to me too!

Had a buddy in high school who put fancy wheels on only the passenger side of his car and saved for a couple months before he could buy the other two..... almost nobody noticed that either.
