Hi All,

I?ve recently purchase a second hand boat and it has dual batteries with an isolator but one of the batteries is STUFFED :-( Im after some advice on a suitable replacement and what?s a good charger setup to keep them well maintained.

Its got a 2001 Yamaha 130 Saltwater, GPS, deck wash, bilge, nav lights, spot lights, deck lights, anchor light and radio.

Current Batteries are N50ZZ with 520CCA and 110RC. One of them appears to be fine but the other is low and wont crank it over.

Do both need to be replaced so that I have two of the equivalent batteries on board? What do you recommend I put in place?

Also what chargers do you guys use to keep them both topped up? Should I just purchase two trickle chargers or is their something else I should be looking at?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

I would put the largest batteries you can fit.

as far as battery chargers, I would go with a maintenance charger like a solergizer or other. they are not for charging, they are for maintaining. most "trickle" chargers do not back off enough for maintenance and fry the batteries.

Then again, I use my boat often enough I do not need to plug my maintenance charger in.

Do I need to replace both so they are the same?

No - they are isolated from each other. Trickle chargers are for long term "storage" maintenance. A 5 - 8 amp two bank charger will be fine.
