dual line to fuel pump conversion question

I have used all of the normal methods of converting a dual line engine to a fuel pump with great success. My questions is that I have some leaf plates for various engines that don't have the check valve holes machined into the plate. (5.5 hp and 18 hp) Can I just use the newer leaf plate and call it a day or will I still have to block one channel in the case?

why not just use the side cover plates as a source of vacum pulsing . the 5.5 has none so no choice in the matter but most other 50s+ engine have inspection cover plates and installing a pump or nipple is no big issue. just close of the pressure nipple behind the carb ...... or am I missing something here ?

Agreed. Why would anybody go to all the work to go into the reed plate if not necessary? Well OK, so it is necessary on the 5.5.

Here is a picture of a 56 10 hp that I did this weekend. I have had good luck with the genuine mikuni fuel pumps under the honda brand. I used the pulse line from the dual tank setup after doing the usual mods. It runs great. There is no room on the inspection plates for a pulse pick up. My next 22ci conversion will be to simply block the factory pressure tube. I always thought it would be easier to simply make a pulse pickup in the inspection cover. I wish the 10 hp had room for one. Anyone know of a mod to install a pulse pickup on a 10hp?

Fill the bypass cover cavity with epoxy (JB Weld or similar), drill through & tap 1/8 NPT threads.

Should the paint be stripped before the Epoxy is applied?
