Re: Duck boat

Too much weight with the Rhino for what you are doing. Son camoed his 15 starcraft with a flat exterior paint use green or brown for base. Then he aerosoled rustoleum brown, rust. and dark brown light green. Used branches, willow bushes, stuff that grows in the marshes for a template. Basicaly held them against hull and sprayed outline of vegetation. The waterfowl do not like anything reflective,so all hardware is removed or painted.I will talk to him about blind and report back the best way to go.There are a couple post at the bottom of this page.

Re: Duck boat

a lot depends on where and how you hunt but only a swimming duck has a direct view of your hull on a boat that size. As was said, dull colors and break up the sillouette but most of the fancy camo patterns attract buyers, not ducks.

Re: Duck boat

So what would be the best choice for the bottom of the boat? Blinds? and thanks for the advice!

Re: Duck boat

inside--plywood floor painted OD. That way your boots don't et hung up on the ribs on the bottom--I hate that on a friend's boat and have come too close to tripping too many times.
Paint the bow deck OD and put black non-skid strips on it.

Can't say about blind materials other than make it match what's already there! Keep it low. The whole object is to conceal movement.

Re: Duck boat

My grandfather had a small wooden boat that he hunted out of and shot more ducks than I have ever seen in my lifetime. What fancy camo was it - flat black. I agree completely that the fancy camo's are more for us than the ducks. With that said, I wanted the challenge of painting my duck boat after building it. I bought rustoleum camo paints (5 different colors) and a stencil kit from "ReelFoot" camos. I used Herter's Dead Marsh for a base coat, then stenciled the camo over it. I like it, and the ducks don't complain.

As for blinds, depends on where you hunt and how much you want to spend. For me, I stand in the marsh and don't bother with a blind. With the boat burried in the cattails, a small area trampled to stand on, and a spot for the dog to get in and out of ther water - I'm all set.

Re: Duck boat

Just build a boat blind that covers the whole thing. I have an 18' CC alluminum boat that isn't painted. My blind covers the entire boat and you don't see any beer can... Then I remove the blind after the season and hang it in my storage. ready to fish as I please

Re: Duck boat

here's how I cammo painted an aluminum canoe:
got a can of greenish paint from the mis-matched pile at the paint store--exterior latex paint
Roll it on the sides and interior
pour some dark brown paint into a roller pan
cut some leafy weeds, dip in the paint, and slap against the sides and interior, while playing appropriate tribal music.
The slap marks should be vertical on the sides and laying from side to side, not bow to stern, on the bottom and decks.
