Dumb question about gearcase trim tab?

How is it adjusted? Is it only for steering effort? The reason I ask is my bass boat lists slightly to the port side while underway with anybody other than myself. I'm wondering if its a weight distrobution issue of if the trim tab could be out of adjustment. The steering seems equal in both directions. Thanks, Rudy.

Re: Dumb question about gearcase trim tab?

Trim tab is to help counter torque steer if it feels normal then it is probably ok.
The list to port is caused by propeller torque
one reason steering is on the starboard side
is to help counter the prop torque.Generally speaking the bigger the motor the more likely you will have a leaning problem.
Sometimes a boat with a fairly deep vee might tend to want to run on one side especially when quartering into the wind.If the lean isn't too bad you could try moving the weight around.
Sometimes raising the motor vertically may help.Depending on where your at now raising the motor could add a little speed as well.
Sometimes trimming out a little might help.
