I have an old Sears air-cooled motor with a Tecumseh powerhead and a built-in gas tank which was very rusty when I got it and after cleaning it out and using a fuel filter and cleaning the crap out of the carburetor many times since, it runs fine- until another little piece of rust lodges in the the main jet or the float valve seat. This has decreased over time, but still happens once in awhile. My dumb question is: Once most of the rust is cleaned out, will the oil-gas mixture in the tank prevent further rusting of the tank or does the rusting process continue? Would really appreciate an answer to this. Thanks.
