Re: Dumb question...go ahead and crush me..

Wow!!!!!!! Are you serious? Or maybe I have never herd it asked that way. Screw the pipe plug in there before you launch or better yet and even better advise take a safe boaters course before you get that thing wet. Good luck and remember an open hole in any boat is never a good thing!!!!!!

You might want to save your smarmy answer for when you look in the mirror tonight immediately after looking up the word ''scupper''.

Not to mention the outlet for the bilge... even though I just mentioned it.

Re: Dumb question...go ahead and crush me..

Can you point to the part of the boater safety course that deals with drain plugs?

I was thinking the same thing....I'm about 1/2 way through the safety course and haven't seen mention of it yet. Those of you who took time to comment about "Are you kidding", "Unreal" etc are IMHO a real turn off to those of us who are boating NOOBs, and new to your forum.

It's great to be funny, but some of the replies are so high school and somewhat degrading. Why in the world would spazz70 even want to post here again???

Actually its a legitamate question ,being threaded, poster may be thinking maybe its some sort of water intake for I/O,or discharge for cooling (you sure as heck dont want to plug your cooling system), maybe a screen or filter gets threaded in there. Not being thoroughly familiar with I/O.Poster didnt know for sure so asked here thats what the forums are for.

As for boater ed courses they do mention to make sure your plugs are in but its a generalized statement they dont go in depth on different types of plugs.

Re: Dumb question...go ahead and crush me..

You screw in the plug BEFORE you put the boat in the water. It is a standard size and you can get these plugs almost anywhere. Put one in your truck with a wrench that fits it. Put one in your boat with a wrench that fits it. And of course have the one that you actually put in the boat's drain hole!

Now when you take the boat out of the water remove the plug and leave it out so any residual bilge water that your bilge pump missed will drain out while you tow her home.

Don't be afraid we are here to help and any and all questions are welcome/needed.

I know the nay sayers on this site wont admit to it but...How many times have you almost yanked the boat with your outdrive still down? You know, caught in the hustle and bustle of loading the boat on the trailer, shutting off the electronics, etc.... Don't worry, you don't have to answer cause someone might crush ya.
Welcome to the site and all questions are welcome.
(I'm dreading asking about help in bellow replacement, and I'm a GM tech!)

Re: Dumb question...go ahead and crush me..

I don't think this is a stupid question at all.....My Century Coronado (straight inboard) doesn't have a plug in the stern at all. I was puzzled by this at first. Then I noticed a brass plate on the port side bow with a threaded hole in it. It's located on the bottom of the hull near the bow roughly in line with the windshield. I stuck my finger in the hole and it was plugged from the inside. I started looking around inside the boat and found that the cooler insert under the teak hatch, removes from between the front seats, and that's where you access the automatic bilge pump and the brass plug. I've been around boats my whole life (45 years) and had never seen a brass pipe drain plug or a drain plug located near the front like this that removes from inside the boat.

Yeah....I like how some of the answers assume the plug threads in from the outside......I'd almost bet it threads in from the inside like my Century does.

Had to come to the rescue of my fellow Century Owner :)

Hope he didn't get run off by the crushing.

It's on pg. 51 about 3/4 of the way down in the "Boater's Pre-Departure Checklist".

Have you ever heard of the phrase "Agent Provocatuer"? It's french for someone who mingles with the masses, gets everyones panties in a wad fighting amongst themselves, then disappears ...

Re: Dumb question...go ahead and crush me..

What about intakes for live wells, wash down pumps ect. There are holes that don't get plugged on a boat. Hey at lest you asked the question before you launched. I remember the fist time I lunched my first boat. I was in too much of a hurry to get on the water, forgot the drain plug, took off across a mud flat that to a noobe looked like a great place to boat and tore up the prop and then was busy trying to get the plug in before I sunk. Luckily I had a really overkill bilge pump that I installed when I was restoring it and it was keeping up with the water coming in. A good way to learn is trial and error a better way is to cruise Iboats and learn a few things before taking up the sport.:)

Re: Dumb question...go ahead and crush me..

Well I really appreciate the straight forward answers without a sarcastic response...I did ask for the bashing though...this is the first boat I have owned and it happens to be an I/O...my father owned mostly bass boats and small v-bottoms...which had a plug with flip lock type lever...just wanted to make sure..I grew up on the lakes in Michigan and until I was 18 took
boater safety courses every year...our lake required it.....I am very familiar with safe operation on the waters and have even been re-hashing thru this site...thanks for your help
