Dumb thing of the day

So I have been cutting and splitting a lot of firewood lately and kind of over-doing it. I am certainly not as young as I think I should be......

So finished up sharpening the chain on the saw and getting ready for my day...... filled up the gas and oil which I promptly put back in garage. Decided it was time to work....picked up the saw and I forgot to replace the caps on the fuel tank and oil tank. I was wearing about 1/2 a tankful of each on my clothes. I really felt dumb and smelled pretty bad too.

I only put in a partial day - that wood will stay right in the yard for now.

I happy that you're around to feel dumb, that gas could have ignited and it could have been an extremely painful end of you.
Gasoline ain't fun or forgiving, be careful.

Good luck,
Nick

Three years ago we had a bad storm that took out a 3ft dia oak which had a hughe branch on the edge of my roof. I got out the chain saws and pole saw and went to work. By mid afternoon the second day I had gotten things cut back enough that I felt pretty good. That oak had a fork with 18" branches that wrapped around a second big one and was pressing it toward the house. Got all that cut down without killing myself.

Thought I was finished with the most dangerous part of cutting up the fallen trees. Turns out just turning and walking too quickly in the woods can create a worse outcome. Fell face first. grrrrr After a couple hours applying cold wet cloths the bleeding stopped. Didn't work as hard the rest of the day and learned to walk slower out of the woods.

I hear lighting a match will evaporate gas pretty quickly and get rid of the smell!;):peep:

If that is the worst of your mistakes, you aren't that old ... now what were we talking about?

Did the same thing about 3 days ago. Filled two saws and walked over to where I had to undercut about a 12" diameter oak top to get it flat enough to start cutting billets. Put saw right close to my crouch and got my knee under it and started lifting and a part of my body that ain't what it used to be was getting ice cold. Looked down and by this time the gas had soaked my pants already to my knees. Up to this point I thought my dumbest move was filling the gas tank with bar oil in another saw back in the Spring. Realized my mistake right away and was able to dump it back in the jug, rinse the gas tank with a quarter cup of gas mix, dump that and refill.
