Dumbest Oil Change

I just drained the oil on my 2007 Toyota and changed filter. I forgot to put the new oil in. I cranked it and backed off of the ramps and drove about 200 ft. before remembering what I had forgotten. I cut the engine off immediately. I then put in the oil. This is the first time I have made a dumb mistake like this on a engine. Has anyone out there had this experience and do you think that my engine may have been damaged ?

You should be just fine. I'd change the oil out again in the next couple of hundred miles and NOT tell Toyota about it. I had a hotrod Mustang and did the same thing except I went about 5 miles, mostly above 4000 rpm. When it seized I noticed that the gauge was in fact working and not broke. I drug it home let it cool off. I then filled with oil and started back up. Everything was fine. That motor lasted me 4 more years and 2 for my brother. He knocked the bottom hose of the radiator and drove it home about 20 miles. It still ran afterwards but he broke the rings and it smoked heavy.

We have had customer's do many dumb things. Your engine will probably survive.

In my Toyota I use synthetic oil only.

The most common error is when people drain the transmission instead of the oil..... now that is a problem because they take special fluid.

I did that to my inline 6 outboard...15 minutes at 6100 RPMs, no oil. We let it cool and added oil...she still hauled *** the rest of the day. I tore it apart and 5 cylinders still had factory hone marks - 30 years old mind you - but one cylinder was totally f*#$%@.

4 years later...my wallet still hurts.

Lesson learned.....Always start the engine and immediately get out and look for oil leaks before slamming the hood THINKING your done. No oil pressure or oil light still on is another good sign, SUM-TING-WONG.

I agree you should be fine, hell walmart does that all the time, drain em, start em and move down the line. Had that slick 50 stuff in my now X wifes s10, she came in and ask what the "tea pot" on the dash ment yes the oil presure idiot light! She had driven with no oil in it for 45 minutes at higway speed, put 5 quarts of oil in it and started it to find a blown seal and oil pumping out fast (cost $2 for the seal) had a little tap in it but we ran it 180,000 miles that way and then sold it.

like said you should be ok. I worked in a shop and the kid fresh outta vo-tech working with us did an oil change pulled the car out (not "kid" had a lead foot) when he came back in the office manager asked what filter and how much oil? he forgot to put oil in it and the dumb***** pulled it back in and put oil in it. He didn't work for us much longer.

That's really not to bad, i once watched a mech pour or tried to pour 5 quart's of oil in the radiator in stead of the engine.... Poor guy just had to big of a day, and this guy was a damm good mech....
