The only way these 2 teams are ever going to draw a match is if it rains for 2 days & the weather forcast for the match is very good.

McGrath will not play, Lea has busted fingers, the edge has to be with England. I think an England win by about 100 runs in 4 days. ;) ;)

I would very much like to see England win all the remaining tests, however i think perhaps you are being too overly optimistic, which is not at all a bad thing, but we must remember this is cricket is'nt it ;)

Re: Dunaruna, Kiwi Phil & Get Reel

I,ve just read this

Australia face pace problems

Lee in hospital with knee infection

Cricinfo staff

August 9, 2005

Brett Lee has given Australia a fresh fitness worry ahead of the third Test on Thursday, following his admission into a Birmingham hospital late on Monday afternoon after experiencing swelling and discomfort in his left knee.

Australia's physiotherapist, Errol Alcott, told reporters at the team hotel that doctors were confident Lee would respond to treatment for the infection, but he remained in hospital overnight, and that he would not travel with the team to Manchester this afternoon. Lee is presently on an intravenous drip and Alcott described his condition as "comfortable", adding that the injury to Lee's left knee may have been related to a cut he sustained while fielding during last month's first Test at Lord's.

Asked about Lee's chances of playing in the third Test, Alcott added: "He's 50-50 but that's what I always say." The injury first came to light before Lee batted on Sunday when he complained of soreness. He went onto score an unbeaten 43 that almost guided Australia to a stunning victory in the second Test at Edgbaston, a match England won by two runs to level the series at 1-1.

Australia, the winners of the last eight Ashes series, are already facing up to the absence of their fast-bowling spearhead, Glenn McGrath, who sustained an ankle injury in the warm-up before the start of play last Thursday. "Glenn is proceeding as well as expected," added Alcott. "He had a scan today and that showed extensive ligament damage, but we knew that anyway."

If Lee was to be ruled out, it would be a huge blow to Ricky Ponting's team, who do have the uncapped paceman, Shaun Tait, in their squad as cover. Prior to Lee's injury, Australia selectors were already discussing the possibility of calling up the allrounder, Shane Watson, who is playing for Hampshire.

© Cricinfo

With McGrath already out with his ankle this is not good news for the Aussies. Bret was as good as any of the bowlers at Edgbaston.
I'm sorry to hear this news, Thursdays test will not be the same without the 2 main fast bowlers playing.

Remember when Packer started the world series back in '77(??).
My brother and I went to the Waverley ground in melbourne to watch the very first match - Aus v world XI. Couldn't have been more than a thousand people there, a stadium that held 100,000!

Those were the days!!

Botham, Gatting,Willis.

What about a vets ashes series, the games would have to be 1 day with oxygen breaks instead of drinks.

I bet all the grounds would be sold out.

Changing the subject,

I think I have started something with the better half, she has never shown much interest in my love for the great game, however having been with me at Edgbaston it seems she has got the "BUG". Not only has she openly admited that the 4 days at Edgbaston were the most fun she has ever had (with her clothes on) she has been on Ebay and paid over £200.00 of her OWN money for tickets to the 4th day at the Oval.

Boxing Day at the MCG may be a real possibility!!!!! :) :) :D :D

I remember those days, test cricket became boring during that era, for one thing all of the truely world class players ended up in OZ.

The good things that came out of that was cricketing countries were forced to inject new recources and develop new blood into the sport.

Kerry Packer gave us cricket under lights for the first time, and made televised cricket much more exciting by introducing lots of camera angles into televised coverage, he truely made stars out of players from the world over.

Cricket trivia:

Paul Hogan (crocodile dundee) and John Cornell (stroop) convinced Dennis Lillee to talk to Packer, Lillee became the first 'rebel' to sign up to the new world series.

Tony Grieg was sacked as Englands captain for supporting the new Packer series.

Ah, Tony Grieg that well-known Englishman! I think it's OK for countries to get people from elsewhere to fight wars for that country, but pinching other country's cricketers? Despicable I say! :)

I don't remember much of the Packer era being only 10 at the time, I do however remember my Grandfather being very upset about the whole thing.

It looks like the OT test is going to be a blinder if the groundsman's report on the pitch is anything to go by, he says that it is the hardest wicket in years, its a pity McGrath is not playing   .

This is freddies home pitch, so he will up his game for the home crowd. My advise to all batsman would be to make sure the chin straps are tight.

No news about Lea as yet,

I understand that Warnie is up for his 600 th wicket this match. The big question is which session will he get no. 600.

My guess is. Ponting will win the toss and this time he will bat. so Warnie wont start bowling until late day 2, Shane should therefore snare No 600 just before stumps on Friday.
