Iam busy with another one of my conversions this is a 1974 70HP JOHNSON ,this motor is gonna be fitted with a radiator & the impeller is still gonna be in place with the water still pumping as the motor turns , so its gonna have a backup cooling system should the radiator fail out at sea , the con rod bottom half's have also been modified to get more lubrication onto the bearings , this motor will have 2 solenoids fitted ,1 on the harness , like what ive done to my 60 hp & the other 1 on top of the exhaust box where they are fitted now , they will both be wired up to power supply , should 1 fail ,then just a click over from a switch that will be fitted , & the other solenoid will be in operation . Have a good look how i have Epoxy coated the inside of this motor , using my special heat resistant Epoxy i have formulated , Also used my special desalting formula to clean the salt & corrosion in the water ways & block , witch works 10x better & 10x cheaper than anything you can buy on the shelf from any boating shop in the world , & 10x more in volume per liter ,at this stage , Sorry iam not a mechanic , but just love working on old outboard motors & rebuilding them as a hobby ,MY ADVICE TO ANYONE , wanting to buy a old motor is strip the exhaust box & have a look at the water passages for corrosion , you will be surprised what salt can do to your motor , i found that over the years water gets in to the pistons through the exhaust ports , i have uploaded photos to show you where the water gets in , have a look at the faces where the gasket goes especially around the exhaust ports , you will see the GREY areas around the gasket faces caused by corrosion , & then u will see how i fixed this by getting grinding paste {COURSE} & a thick glass top , not your mothers dining room table . like i used , PHOTOS WILL FOLLOW ONCE THIS CONVERSION HAS BEEN DONE , cheers

more photos note the holes eaten into the exhaust box , were we are loosing water , especially the 2nd photo , that's were it pisses back out the exhaust , and we cannot see this , buy refacing all the gasket faces ,works & where the aluminum has been eaten away i build it up with my special Epoxy mix , note in the last photo around the center port you will see a grey area , that's where its been repaired & refaced using grinding paste . & glass top, cheers

this is what you can do to get more lubrication onto your con-rod big end bearing , get a 0.8 cutting disc & cut into the bottom half of the con rod , & after cutting clean the inside with a fine glass sanding paper the con rod bearing get more lubrication as the reed valves then spray oil/fuel mixture directly onto the con rod bearing , cheers

No risk of the epoxy flaking off and blocking the thermostat not to forget all the colors you may get. This is how the parts were originally protected from factory.

thank you for that info , very impressive , I stay with my method , which only costs me 30 NZ dlrs , & A half hour of my time < cheers
