The manuals are for mechanics of drive and engine. Go to the restoration and start a thread about your hull.

Re: dusting off the mercruiser 888

yeah the bottom third is soft, i did a water test(see if it floats) it sank, needs a gimble housing from what im learning as i go. it has a big errosion hole length wise, im affraid that if its soft removing the out drive to replace the parts will cause more damage to the transom

Sorry, but if the bottom third of the transom if soft, I wouldn't recommend doing anything but repairing the transom with new plywood (not as bad as it seems), or scrapping the boat. A soft transom, especially in the lower section, is a recipe for engine mount issue, drive alignment problems, and major water leaks. No point in sinking any money into motor/outdrive parts until the transom issue is remedied.

Unfortunately I would have to agree. If everything was already up and running with no issues, then I would say you might get away with running it for another season... hoping for no leaks and other issues. But since you need to do so many other things, it would not make sense to pour any more money into this boat. At least not without fixing the transom first. As has been said many times before, sometimes the most expensive boat is a free (or cheap) boat!

I just read this part....

"... i did a water test(see if it floats) it sank...."

Do you mean it took on a lot of water? Or it actually sank and had to be pumped out to get it back on the trailer... :faint2:

Sadly yet another boat ready for a landfill.
Save the trailer and whatever you can, dump the boat and look for something else.
Or go to restoration section, have plenty of reading and start shelling out $$$$ and putting many hours of your labor in it.
Up to you.

The gimble housing? has a errosion hole in it, motor runs sounds good. i hope its not for the scrap yard,

From the way the post I actually quoted read to me, you did a float test and your boat sank....

"... i did a water test(see if it floats) it sank...."

If it sank how did you get it "back" to work on it? Plus if it did sink you have a whole bunch of new electrical things to fix/replace. Just sayin'.

You may want to check out Jay Frisco site on a SeaRay he redid on his restore. Its over in the in the restoration section. I'm starting or a 1976 El Dorado:facepalm: that will need engine, outdrive, Transon and stringer work.

He did Video on a lot of his rebuild. After your finished, you'll have a new boat.:D
