I have a 1989 rude 140 with the standard alt. system. (9 amp )
my question is what do I need to do to make this a 35 amp system
I have read that there is an upgrade but unable to
find the part #s I need to do this
my seloc manual is a joke on this area and
the evinrude site does not show anything about the 35 amp sys.
there is one online supplier I have found has a
magnet that is glued in for a 35 amp system but,
there is not enough info on the site to know if this is all I need
And then also would I need a differant regulator
this engine does have the water cooled regulator/ rectifier
thanks, Mike

The V4 looper outboards didn't have the 35 amp system. But - gotta love it - it can be done. The 2.0 liter Sea Drives had the 35 amp system. You'll need the flywheel, stator, upper bearing housing and the 35 amp regulator / rectifier.

There is a kit for that - part # 0174810. I looked into it for my 140 but at $800. decided to get by with what I had.

You can at least get the parts list for it on the "OB Accessories" section of http://shop.evinrude.com/

the price makes this idea absurd
maybe I'll figure out a way to mount an external
alt. on the engine and run it with a belt drive

Re: E 140 charging system ?

Most folks around here look for an old 2.0 Sea Drive which can be bought for less than the kit price and use the parts. There are places to get the parts, if you can't find any locally shoot me a PM and I'll get you hooked up.

If you have all the part numbers (not just the kit) try Twin Cities Outboard. They specialize in the salvage of outboards and parts. They have a mountain of engines in their yard.
