E-TEC looking to change prop pitch

I’ve got a 2006 75hp E-TEC tiller on a 16’ fiberglass multi species v-hull boat. The motor is not original to the boat, it was used and came off another boat, I think a pontoon with a steering wheel and remote controls and was converted to a tiller, but I’m not 100% sure on that.

The motor is currently equipped with a 13 1/4 inch prop in a 17 pitch. The boat seems like it takes a while to get on plane, it only goes 32-34 mph (I feel like a 16 footer with a 75hp 2 stroke should do a bit better than that), and most concerning to me is the fact that at WOT the RPMs only reach 4250 rpm. Ideally, I would like for it to run at 5000-5200 at WOT.

I’m thinking about maybe going to a 13 1/2 inch 15 pitch prop. I feel like that would allow to boat to place out faster, put less stress on the motor, allow the engine to hit that 5000+ RPM mark, and maybe even gain some speed allowing the engine to rev out all the way.

I am by no means an expert on prop size/pitch. Just want to make sure I’m on the right track before I pull the trigger and buy anything.

That motor should be 4500-5500 rpms. With the throttle at max id shoot for 5400 rpm.On my 60hp etec i run at max at 6000 .The rev limiter kicks in at 6250.I run an older omc stainless repitched to 16p which runs my 1976 starcraft ss 160 to 33 mph.Load it to the max and you still hit 33 mph!
