It sounds like you have enemies.
Someone poured that water in there.
What about a security camera, better yet , a dog would put a stop to this nonesense of idiots messing with your boat in the driveway.

If you plan any future work on your E-Tec, I would suggest getting an OEM shop manual and the BRP diagnostic software. WAG's with these motors can be catostrophic.

I am most impressed with the e-TEC having its oil sensor at the oil pickup.

You need the factory manual. The oil sensor is mounted on the oil injector attached to the motor. The only thing the oil tank has is a "cork" float that tells if the oil level gets low.

I thought about that but it'd probably just get in fights with the neighbors' pit bulls. With two young children it's not in my interest to put more fuel on the fire.

Thank you.

Yes, I figured that. But the contaminated oil never reached the engine. The bad oil got to within a foot of the engine over a 5' external oil line. Yet it alarmed as soon as the engine was started. So I think the sensor was able to sense changes from the pickup point as it indicated Low Oil condition as soon as it was started with water in the bottom of the (2/3 water, 1/3 oil) oil tank.

In any event I'm going to take the advice of others and follow-up with a trip to an e-TEC shop for maintenance, inspection and checks. I located a good place within 30 min.s last Friday. This was a close call and it's due for its periodic maintenance anyways.

Thanks again for your advice.
