Re: E-Tech Evinrude vs Mercury

:) Went to my evinrude dealer the other day and inquired about the E-Tech!!! I already have a 225hp 2003 Fiecht!!! I was told that there isn't really much differance between them to keep the one that I have!!!

As far as maintenance free, I'm sure you will need to replace the spark plugs every 50-100 hours!!! I replace the ones I have now about every 50-60 hrs.!!! You still have to winterize it, so Iwould read between the lines and fine print!!! ;)

The Etech from a technology stand point is way more refined than a Opti or a Ficht.
I wouldnt even consider a Verado because of the weight.

You might want to talk to a dealer who is familiar with the E-TEC motors and who knows that they are head and shoulders above the Evinrude DI or FICHT engines. The V6 engine block may look similar, but that is only thing. The E-TEC is a whole new system.

Spark plug life is also much better than older motors. Most E-TEC customers in average use are getting 300 hours, plus or minus a bit, on their motors as long as they are set up correctly.

Andy, we have had computers in our cars for two decades, what makes you think the computers in an outboard would be unreliable and "lean the mixture when it's already lean"?

Computers running an engine are like having a mechanic tinkering with it for maximum efficency every second of it's operation.
