Re: E140TXCDC..Feul Issues???..

I read that before i tried it. but I wasnt 100% sure on what i would see exactly.. given what i saw and what you said it would appear that the pump is failing.

for clarification purposes..the first pulse was really strong, had some good push behind it. the second pump still had a good deal of gas coming but clearly a much less push and the last pulse had about the same as the second but a bit less push...

So i definitely am looking at a weak pump?..

What I didn't check was the actual pulse output. Is it worth checking the fitting at the crankcase before i totally condem the pump or it is a lost cause?

By all means test the pulse. You never know. However the pulse should not be erratic.
Do the pump output test again, have the muffs on and pull the lanyard so it does not start up on you. Crank continuously for 10 seconds or so. You should get continuous strong spurts each one the same as the last one. If it get's weaker as you continue then that is an issue.

Re: E140TXCDC..Feul Issues???..

you are very knowledgabale so i keep coming back!! I hope you dont mind.

As for the pulse.. I think its off the #4 cylinder (or so I read )... Anyway, with good commpression all around.. whats the probability there is anything wrong with the cylinder that is in charge of pulsing??

Secondly, Do the reeds have anything to do with this pulsing?.. meaning if i had worn/warped/cracked reeds..would this affect the pulses and not show on a compression test??

I plan on doing the carbs anyway so I will look in deeper and inspect the reeds..

Thanks!!

I don't know for sure obviously but I very much doubt you have a pulse line issue.
Did you do the 10 second cranking test yet ???

Re: E140TXCDC..Feul Issues???..

the reason i asked about reeds was if they had anything to do with the suction stroke...so if they are to shut tight and dont, does that mean less suction and therefore less pump (pule output?)...

ill read up on it a bit...

Thanks again.. we'll see what the TEN turns do...

Happy 4th of July or Bastille Day!! Oh Canada!

10 crank test is now complete... she started strong and tailed off pretty quickly to spitting... I did the test without a hose attched so it was coming directly from the 90 degree elbow on the top of the pump..should i have used a hose??

I also double checked compression, and spark (used a gap tester at 7/16 and she jumped no sweat), I then used an inductive timing light to be sure each cylinder was firing.

One thing I am not sure about it is what the inductive timing light actually showed,,aside from rapid pulses..what did that prove??..spark generation?

I guess i need to decide if i am going to pre-mix and go with a regular pump or bite the bullet on a new VRO.....

Re: E140TXCDC..Feul Issues???..

You can premix and use the VRO pump which is a much stronger pump than any lift pump.

If the gasoline side of a VRO is still working, it costs nothing to change it to premix. If the Gasoline side is not working you can rebuild it for around $100. The oil side of the VRO cannot be repaired.

The pulse requires a working piston that creates alternating vacuum and compression. If the reeds or the piston rings fail, the VRO system won't work, but neither will a conventional lift pump for the same reason.

Re: E140TXCDC..Feul Issues???..

my gut tells me to stick with the VRO.. as it appears to me, given the nice blue colored gas that comes out that the oil side is good.. its the feul side that is having the issues.

My compression is 125 on all but one cylinder which is 130..so compression seems good.

Once the carb kits get here I will rebuid for sake of doing them and should be able to take a glimpse at the reeds i hope??..I do not plan on removing the entire carb plate just the bowls and such. or maybe I should take it all down??. I'm a bit nervous going way too deep and not wanting to screw anything up..

Would you know off hand what the rebuild kit is for the feul side of the VRO??

The rebuild kit is actually two part numbers: 435921 and 436095. Available through any BRP authorized parts dealer. List for 435921 is around 45.75; list for 436095 is around 56.00.

If you don't have the service manual for the rebuild, the instructions are on-line here: http://www.maxrules.com/fixomcvro.html

thank you!

I have the repair manual for the enigne but i dont think it covers rebuilding the VRO..or maybe it does..I'll check..

I went to the link and it took me to the parts page..didnt see the vro instructions..
