i have a eagle 320 on my console. this weekend picked up a 480 at academy sports. wanting to check it out before putting it on the trolling motor. im assuming its the same transducer. its probably not that much of an upgrade but it was on sale for 64 dollars. anyone know if it is the same transducer?

WOW, $64 for an Eagle (FishMark?) 480, nice score there! I paid over $100 for mine when it was on sale, and I thought that was a good price

I'm under the impression the 320 and 480 are very similar sonars and the only major difference is the screen resolution, maybe a couple other minor differences. If the power/ducer plug looks the same, go for it.

They played games with the connectors on these units so if the connectors match, the transducer should work. As pointed out, the major difference in the two units is the screen resolution.

thanks guys. question for fisherdan, have you left your unit on factory settings. i was using the 320. yes i went through the book and did the tutoriols. just wanting to know what settings work for others with these units. found a sight that said to put the grayline on 58 and the sensitivity on 89. i really would like to buy a more expensive unit, once the misses gets back to work. i can use this low end to find a road bed or a couple of humps but not sure the fish symbols are really fish.

Fish symbols are rarely fish. But you also don't need to set sensitivity that high to see a road bed. With the sensitivity set lower you stand a better chance of actually seeing fish rather than all the debris and algae that's in the water.

Re: eagle 320/480 transducer same?

I have my Fishmark 480 at the default factory settings,,, so the kids and wife can understand what's going on. The fish symbols are pretty accurate for our conditions, but we don't have a lot of cover in Lake Mead to throw off the sonar either.

We were out Saturday and the sonar showed some bait but no fish, we weren't catching anything so I pulled up the anchors. I moved 1/2 mile and the sonar started picking up fish so I anchored down, we filled the livewell in 3 hours :D

But as ST said, sonars do lie. There are several areas on the Colorado river below Hoover dam where springs, seeps, whatever, in the river make bubbles all over the place, the sonar shows archs, but it's just air bubbles in the water. Had similar experiences with submerged trees. I fish desert reservoirs, so my conditions are probably different than yours.
