Make sure the transducer is parallel to the waterline.

If it only happens when you're moving, sounds like turbulence.

Has it always done this? How old is it?

If it's running in engine bubbles that will happen.

Maybe the previous owner screwed up some settings; see if you can reset all the settings to factory default - should be a choice somewhere in the menu system. Sorry I can't be more specific, I have a later-model fishmark320.

The website is www.eaglegps.com - they have owner's manuals in pdf there, I believe they have yours.

Let us know whether any of this helps, or if you think of anything else.

The shallow water problem was very common in older high power Lowrance units. I though newer units had solved this problem. I would try setting to factory defaults also. I do not know your exact unit but thing I would try is turn the sensitivy down, turn the ping speed or chart speed up, if unit has a surface clutter setting turn it off. Also try manual mode and set to 20 feet, do not look at the digital reading but the bottom signal off the chart. This was one thing done with older units. The display chart was right if displayed at all.
Good Luck and PLEASE come back and let us know what eagle says. Never hurts to tell them your looking for a cure on a large internet boating site. They know that what people here about manufactures affects their sales.

Before I spent too much time I would call Eagle and ask about problem. Make sure you ask if there is a firmware upgrade to slove problem.

Thanks for the help
Yea I already called Eagle They said it was probably the transducer and tried to sell me a new one for $79.00.
I have used the reset and now i am experimenting with different settings on manual mode.
Boatist I'll give those settings a try and let you know if they work. I have been turnning up the Sens. and useing the graph it works about 50% of the time.
I'm not going out this weekend but will go next and let you know.
Thanks again

Sounds like eagle. I tell ya I'm having the same problem. Just lately though. I have a 320 seafinder. I loose bottom as I approach shallower water. Not necessarily any certain depth. I don't keep my boat at home and will address the problem real soon. The only thing I have done lately is jack up the sensitivity looking for baitfish. I mean all the way up. It just blinks for a few seconds here & there though. While moving at higher speeds I can loose capture all together though. This I think could be bubbles. but I troll when searching baitfish so we'll see what we see. I figure I'll clean the transducer, check level and uhhhh what else. The transducer has been installed there for three years.
