Eagle Transducer wire

Noticed that my Eagle Fishfinder is not working nearly as well as last season. Used to give me reading while I was moving 10-12 mph forward. This season I have to be damn near stopped in order for it to read. Only one thing has changed; the wiring on the transom has come loose. Think this could keep it from reading until I was almost stopped?

I also have a eagle cuda something and mine is not working right this year niether doing the same thing as yours. I called eagle and told them what was going on and they said samething transducer was bad. They want 70.00 for mine and I only paid 79 like 4 years ago I am just going to buy a new fishfinder. I hope this weekend I will get over to basspro to pick something out.

Seems odd. It's an electrical component and I would think it would be an all or nothing thing. Nevertheless, I'm going to re-fasten the wire and clean the bottom of the transducer like it says at their website. We'll see.

My thinking is that loose wire is pulling on the transducer and making it move ever so slightly.

Most transducers are piezo devices. They use electrical energy to excite a crystal which in turn generates a mechanical vibration. As the physical properties of the crystal deteriorates so does the signal it produces.

If your sounder is run in manual mode the first sign of signal degradation is a decrease in gain required at any given time. If the sounder can only be run in auto mode, the unit automatically compensates for the loss of signal and your first sign of the impending failure are the symptoms you described.
