looking for some pointers on this I got a 9.8 that runs well as long as you keep the squeeze on the primer bulb. I have taken the pump off and it looks ok put it back on and same thing. the gizmo that has fuel line hooked to it and plugs into the motor seemes to have some slop in it and not sure if it is causing air leak or not could that be the cause.

No sure what you mean but if there is a hose running from the bottom to the top of the cylinders that is an oil line that lubricates the upper main bearing. If it is worn or cracked replace it. If the fuel pump diaphram is stretched replace it. It should be flat and tight. If it is worn it will not pump fuel. They are inexpensive.. Pumping the bulb to keep it running is a sure sign the diaphram is shot

maybe it is the diaphram as this one is not flat and tight. I guess I will have to get the year figured out for sure and see if I can order one locally before online
