I have an early 70's 9.9 Evinrude that sort of pops out of gear at high revs. It never completely jumps out of gear, just sort of stutters, then keeps going. When I exert pressure on the gear shifter towards the forward position, it will run wonderfully without any problems.

Is there an (easy) adjustment I can make? I keep the motor at a fly-in cabin of mine, and have somewhat limited access to tools. If I need something special, I will need to carry it in with me on my next trip. Is there a particular manual I can purchase that is not a complete shop manual for this motor that could help me with basic adjustments, etc. like this?

Thanks

Re: Early 70's 9.9 forward gear adjustment

Now that I have figured out the Search on this forum, I think I have found my answer. Sounds like clutch dog to me, based on what I have read here. Will do some research on my own and determine repairs.

Thanks anyway to all.
