Early 90's 15hp 2-stroke power problem

This motor starts and idles fine. When I open up throttle, it seems to run on only 1 cylinder for a minute or two. Then, suddenly, it will jump into full power and will run well until I slow it down again.

Then I'll troll for awhile, and have the same problem if I want to speed it up.

I've tried new plugs - no change.

Has anyone encountered this problem?

Could be a bad stator, cdi box, or your carbs. First do a compression test. Then get a spark tester make sure you have bright blue spark. The if none of the about works make sure both cylinders have spark. If all else fails it most likely be cheaper to take it to a dealer then try all this if you don't have then tools.

Thanks - I'll check those out. Also, it's about due to have the carb cleaned and a new impeller. Winter project.
