Earrow Outboards 1.JPG

Been offered the new line of Earrow outboards. The Company was founded in 2005 by a group of guys who loved outboards as well as boating. Arrow manufactures mostly 2 stroke outboards in the 3.5 to 40 HP range in China.

Their key Engineers have 20 years working experience in the previous BRP outboard factory in China DG.

Earrow uses key components from Yamaha’s suppliers to ensure functionality, reliability and longevity. 95% of spare parts are compatible with Yamaha brand which can be bought through local Yam dealers...

I'm an Engineer and I managed (owned) a company that builds factories from parts sourced worldwide. (Caveat I retired 4 years ago)

I have worked with companies that sourced parts from Chinese companies that built to US and Japanese standards. That was one of the reasons I retired - because my Multi-Million Dollar factory failed because the parts DIDN"T freaking work.

Do as you please. My opinion is that I would be a fool if I proceeded in that direction.

That's my opinion and I will not post in this thread again.

I offer you the best of luck.

We design, build and install automation equipment for steel production and processing.

I have over 40 years in the industry, 35 of those dealing with the Chinese in an engineering capacity.

Even though there are a number of Chinese competitors, the Chinese typically buy US and German made equipment because of the technology advantages.

They have “copy” down to an art form.....technology, not so much ;)

Those guys knows that have worked with Tohatsu outboards for years now, wanted someone that besides selling them would have long years of boating and after sales proved experience that's why the offer. Have an agreement to buy (1) 15 and (1) 30 HP motors to check their quality, reliability for recreational activities.

Right now there isn't a single portable range motor to buy, all dealers are out of stock and with future back orders as long as six months once the order has been placed.

Both motors should arrive in 2 months, those clever guys have produced large quantities before the C19 took over. Costs less that half the price of a Yam Motor sold locally. so it's a price advantage to deal with them.

If wanting to manufacture an oustanding product why use local machinery when can import way better machines from other countries to manufacture just about everything. Yep their copy down is an art form for them and not much to do about it.

Got to watch the wording...tricky lil devils. Even website has a Merc not Earrow displayed on boat..

2, Special surface pretreatment production line, passivated surface made the parts & engine
More durable, anti corrosion, this technology learn from Evinrude BRP painting process.

3, Main engineers used to work in previous BRP Chinese subsidiary plant, we learn from BRP Technology, our outboards are more quiet.............

..So they stole the corrosion treatment process and their guys worked at a BRP plant, not for BRP and stole the water wall technology also. What about spare parts and warranty service?
Heres a lesson I learned... flashback 1991. Was wooed into taking on the Parsun outboard line. Took possession of (10) 25hp. Total junk as started having problems when they reached the 2-3 month age..Sold 7, bought back 2, stripped 2 new ones for parts as couldn't wait months for parts to arrive, nightmare getting money on warranty repairs, I refused to pay the rest of the billing (1/2 now 1/2 on final) and boxed up all 5 including the robbed ones, sent back and as far as I know they may be on a dock somewhere as still get a bill every now and then. I just send em copy of bill of lading where was picked up for return. All I can say is good luck.

Even website has a Merc not Earrow displayed on boat. Have checked their entire web page and can't find what stated, so where might that be posted ? If you plan working with an outboard Company that doesn't have a main local dealer and plan importing by yourself you need to stock the main parts that usually fails. Don't have issues importing direct from China by air, lots of courrier Companies to work with.

Which were the main tech issues with Parsun outboards, those are selling quite well down here and the local representative stands pretty well for them which is a plus. Yamaha, Suzuki, Merc local representatives don't stock 100% of their spare parts for their motors either, worse in C19 pandemia time, so....

One scenario is using a recreational outboard for recreational purposes and other different one using same for heavy commercial applications.

Yep you're right about the add, that's false propaganda. How can you have oil pressure problems with a pre-mix 2 stroke motor ? The bearing and the lower unit gear wear happened in how much time out of the box ? These motors will be used to power tender applications at low speed around a bay, so hopefully will last much longer.

These where the 25Hp 4 strokes.. engines lost oil pressure as they wore in. Pinions failed on gearset ..why ??? I didnt investigate , just fixed to keep owners satisfied. Started seen gear failure in latter months. 5-7 months as only 2 made it out of warranty with no issues.
