Boy, my fingers and brain are just not co-operating this morning. Will try this post again. My Honey has had ADSL for about 2 months now on her Windows XP Home and for the last 2 months each time it is started up, new hardware comes up and wants to instal HSP56 MR which is the old telephone jack card hardware. I have gone and up to a point tried to instal it then cancel it thinking it wouldn't ask again but sure enough every time it is started, the add hardware comes up. Can I go into add/remove programs and delete the HSP56 MR to get rid of it or must I actually take the telephone card out and then remove the HSP56 MR from add/remove? I see the ADSL(in add/remove program) is there but have no idea why the old one is asking to be installed. Any help will be appreciated. Tks....Ed

It sure does and I don't really understand why. I would figure that once a new one is in the other one would be over ridden. Kindy weird, isn't it?

What's the problem if you have the modem installed? If there is a problem, physically remove the modem you don't need.

L.I. Chuck; there is no problem with the modem still installed it's the annoying every day message that comes up saying that new hardware is found. It's not new hardware but for some reason her computer thinks so. If I take it out physically will that fix the pop up coming on each start up telling us there is new hardware? Just deleting the HSP56 MR from add/remove programs will not do the trick?

Yup, L.I. Chuck is dead on. Easiest thing to do is pop out the (unused) modem.

Yea malibu, if it don't see anything, it can't ask you to install it.
Make sure the puter is all the way off.
Don't know what kind you have, but mine has to be unplugged to be completely off.
Just turning it off at the main case does not do the trick, on mine anyway.

Easier way is to fiish the install and not use the modem. It should be able to coexist with the new adsl modem.

Best answaer is to remove the physical hardware I requires you to open the box and take out 1 screw. the only issue is you will have a hole unless you reinstall the cover plate.

Tks Guys for the advice. I was finally able to get my Honey off her machine and I shut it down, took out the modem(also took the vacuum cleaner, very carefully and got 10 lbs of dust out as well). Runs like a charm now and no "new hardware" coming up. My only problem is what real gun said is about the cover plate missing but I am sure the computer shops must have some kicking around to purchase. Tks for all your help.

That modem, i'll bet has a PCTel chipset. Very finicky modem, especially finding the right drivers. Lucent (now Agere) chipset Winmodems are much better and drivers are easily found.

Xcusme - my sentiments exactly. As soon as I saw HSP56; shivver me timbers!

Okay guys, Xcusme & Paul Moir....what are you guys getting at??? I took it out and things seem to be okay but can I expect some trouble here yet? Please say things should work out and it's good that that modem is out.

Things should work out. It's good that that modem is out. :)

If that happens to be the modem we're thinking about, installing the software for it can be very tricky. As you witnessed with those 'New Hardware Detected' dialogs that were popping up on you. That's why it was easier just to physically remove it rather than try to install it's software properly.
