Easy swap?

Currently have 1990 boat with 1990 175 Johnson. Engine is a little tired. I am looking at a 2000 175 Johnson. Question is this: the newer motor has no controls, wiring, etc.-just the motor. Would this be an easy swap? Could I just remove and replace the motor using existing controls, wiring harness, etc?

There are adaptors for the wiring harness, no big deal. The controls will work.

Be prepared for;
1- More zing. A lot more.
2- Buying less fuel.
3- Getting more rpm with the same prop.
4- More smiles per gallon.

I love to hear the reasons people give when they get new motor fever.

I, myself, used the "a little tired" rationale once.

Try this: "A 60* looper will give me better performance and use less gas than the 90* crossflow ".

Sounds like a good swap to me.

Don't tell anybody the 90* crossflows were born tired compared to a 60* looper.

Sorry to hi jack this, but what is a "looper"? I'm doing the horsepower swap also, going from a 68 Johnson 65hp to a 77 Johnson 140hp. I hope it's a BIG difference figuring I'm more than doubling the hp Also is my 140hp a 90* or 60* "looper"?

Please don't hijack, Dreamer. Your '77 140 is a 90* crossflow, and thirsty.
