I have a 65 chris craft with an Eaton outdrive that calls for 90 weight gear lube (Eaton or Merc part# L100) with chlorine, sulphur and lead additives. The owners manual is pretty insistant on that product, needless to say finding that is out of the question. So my question is, what gear lube can I use?

Re: Eaton outdrive- what gear lube?

I don't know much about oils, but chlorine and sulphur additives are 'Extreme Pressure' or EP additives used in hypoid oils. That is to say oils that are to be used with hypoid cut bevel gears.
Since all modern outboards and outdrives use hypoid cut gears, and therefore lube that contains the required EP additives, I would expect any 90 weight outboard or outdrive lower unit lube would be fine.

The lead though is a mystery to me.

EDIT: lead-naphthenate is also an EP additive for gear oils. Perhaps this is what they ment.
