Wow I am pissed. I sell alot of things on ebay for work and have a nice side business with it also.

Earlier today I listed vehicles (actually 3 a car, truck, and motorcycle)for my customers. They wanted a 7 day auction... so far it's okay.

Here it is 6 hours later and the vehicles are not showing up on ebay?? I contact the "support" live chat and I am told

EBAY - "Due to the fact that listings of big ticket items such as vehicles contain more specific information and greater detail, it may take up to 9 hours for your auction to appear in Search or locatable by category. This allows time for the vehicle to be fully indexed into our system, thus making it searchable by all means, both on the Core eBay site, as well as the Motors eBay site."

9 hours!!!!  Now I am fuming!!
then told

EBAY - "Every listing goes through this natural process to be sure that buyers can locate your vehicle with each of your search words. eBay uses proactive programs, processes and tools that may require a little more time for high-value items like vehicles. Listing fees are not tied directly to duration – they are the same for 3, 5, and 7 day listings. "

I am just PO'd about this lag. So I am going on the warpath Monday and maybe contact a consumer affairs person.

Pay for 7 days of listing and receive 9 hours less.... hmmmm I did the math

right now there is 36579 passenger vehicles listed times 9 hours divided by 24 equals 13717 days of overcharges!!!

I smell fraud!

Oh Happy Easter everyone! :)

You won't be the 1st to smell fraud by ebay...last year the UK site started taking money from my bank account without invoicing me and kicked me off there when I had my bank reverse the transfers.

Ya, the prop and fishing pole I listed today was there when I got done, almost instant as with every other thing I list! I now have over 400 Transactions. It took about an hour for the car I sold last year to show up!

Re: Ebay Rant!!!

Yeah they all finally showed up sometime during the night. I saw alot of vehicles that showed in less than 3 hours but 9 hours+ in my case is terrible.
Ebay tried to tell me it is due to being a high ticket item. I will raise my concerns tomorrow.

When big ticket items like motor vehicles, do you list the VIN? If so, is it possible that a check is done to see if they maybe a stolen item?

I've heard stories where the government (IRS) is wanting information on some accounts. Mainly those that do their banking overseas. Just another thing Uncle Sam wanting to get his grubby hands on.

Ebay is loaded with fraud and corruption but they don’t care as long as they an collect the fees from the sellers. Whatever it is on Ebay, if the seller does not accept PayPal (an Ebay company) or other means of using a credit card, I don’t even bother with the auction anymore. Any problems what so ever, I contact the bank and reverse the credit card charge. I never go thru PayPal to or Ebay to attempt to correct a problem. Those channels are a waste of time and they charge you to do what your credit card company is required to do for free.

Fwiw, Ebay bought craigslist.com, and recently bought skype (voice over internet) as well.

Re: Ebay Rant!!!

When I first started on Ebay, big listings took forever, once I had my seller account VERY well established, all my listings are instant now.

I think they have their own backend rating system that you have to climb somehow.

....Have you been doing a lot of selling for a while now?.... if so, you blow my theory out the water and Go get em!

Re: Ebay Rant!!!

For chrissakes...whats the damn difference? The selling happens at the end anyway. I NEVER look at newly listed, and if you have such a problem with something so trivial, why don't you simply spend a DIME, and then you can have your own start time. I spend the dime to have my auctions end on Monday night 9est, so all have a chance, east to west. And to the Japan poster on ebay fraud (its not ebay...it the scum that is each and everyone's neighbors), you should see our elected politicians. Ebay losers have nothing on those idiots

No, it’s Ebay, specifically their policy and procedures. They protect the sellers at the expense of the buyers. Ebay makes their money from the sellers, so it makes sense. Example: all of those Power Sellers and businesses on Ebay that collect state sales tax, they are responsible for the integrity of the items they send, never the buyer. So the buyer never needs to pay for shipping insurance. Yet Ebay encourages the sellers to require the buyer to purchase shipping insurance, something that contrasts with the federal Magnusson Moss Act. If something is ever made broke during shipping it’s the seller’s problem. If seller won’t refund ALL of your money, including shipping costs, contact your bank and reverse the entire charge.

Like I said, I only recommend Ebay if used with a credit card so you can reverse the charges as necessary. My understanding is that all of the major credit card banks routinely reverse charges for Ebay fraud. People have figured out that PayPal is its own scam, too. If you have a PayPal problem, contact your credit card bank and reverse the charges, don’t even bother trying to get PayPal to help you.

Re: Ebay Rant!!!

Noel, I am an established seller Silver powerseller on one account and Gold powerseller on the other. I spoke with my account manager (a perk of being Gold) and I received a partial refund.
Scaaty, even if you schedule a start time for a "big ticket item" on ebay motors I was told there is still a lag. Yes I am aware of when to start and stop.... so I will save my dimes. People watch and you pick up more watchers on Saturday nights then any other nights! I was pissed because it was a Saturday night.

As far as the fraud I probably get 25-30 fraud e-mails daily... I just delete them.

18R I have a very liberal e-bay return/replacement policy. I actually pride myself on doing things the right way and that is why I am in business.

I just refuse to participate in fraud so when I ship to a foreign country I put the exact $$ amount on the customs forms (People ask me to put less and I will not). I have refused to sell to certain countries but then again I have shipped to Japan, Great Britain, Australia, Chili, Germany, Italy and Canada weekly. Sorry Nigerians I don't ship there (but will accept cash in person if they are willing to travel!!)
