Re: EBAY
I've bought two. First was a '56 Johnson 30hp. This was a few years back when eBay was still somewhat obscure. It cost more to ship the motor than I bid for it. Nonetheless, it was well worth it. The motor was in good shape and came back to life nicely after a little TLC. It purrs like a kitten - 'just doesn't know it will be 50 years old next year. The second was a 1949 Johnson HD-25 2.5hp. The auction was local and I paid $30 for it. This motor needed considerably more work. But for $30 any motor is worth it.

I also sold one last year. It was a '89 40hp Evinrude. I put it on with a "Buy it Now" of $1000, it was gone in half a day ('shoulda asked for more). Crating it was a pain. But the buyer was happy and posted positive feedback.

So, overall I've had good experiences dealing with motors and parts on eBay. But, it's just like anything else... let the buyer beware.
