Interesting thread. A good idea from Woodonglass. The T-moulding might be a good substitute for the currently sold rub rail insert material, especially if your existing aluminmum part is salvagable.

If the aluminum rail is in good shape, replacement vinyl inserts are cheap. I think I paid $26 for 40 feet of vinyl insert. At those prices, no sense in trying to come up with a substitute.

Yeah I agree. I just didn't know the price off the top of my head and the cost differnce. Just courious, where did you get your insert material from?

Wow! Prices have gone up quite a bit since I bought this stuff just a few short years ago. This is the common insert for the aluminum "C" channel used on 60's and 70's runabouts.

It is available in a few sizes. I think I bought the Taco brand, and if you shop around it probably can be found for less than $60 for 50 ft that is the go2marine price.

I got a black pvc rub rail from my local marine store. It was a little more that 1 dollar a foot. It came in 20 foot lengths so I had to buy 2 lengths.

Tagging this one as well....Tall Canadian do you know what the supplier name was for the rub rail you purchased?

Dollar a foot is pretty darn good.

I could tell you the name but you have to buy it in 20 foot lengths. By the time you get it shipped your way, it will cost a small fortune...unfortunately.
