2006 Mercruiser 4.3 Injected 220HP

I get mailings from a couple auto parts stores. Darn junk mail.... Anyways, one of the things I generally see highly advertised are the ECU program kits to increase HP, or just program to allow for better performance of a giving driving habit. So, are there any of those available for the mercruiser line? If so, anyone ever used one? Would you use one?

I used one in a car I had a long time ago and it had a noticeable improvement in acceleration and the upper end of the power band.

Re: ECU Program

As stated in the merc manual... THEY DONT ADVISE using anything to modify their engines with things like that.

Thanks Guys. I figured as much that they wouldn't be available. I don't think I would put one on; marine engines are already run pretty hard compared to an automobile.

Re: ECU Program

There is a local dealer in my area that can program Mercruiser. He's also got a dyno - so he does reprogramming for forced induction and major internal modification.

It can be done, there just isn't as large a market as there is for cars. There isn't really any "free" HP - most of those chips are bumping timing slightly.

If you ever buy one - car or other - look for independent reviews and dyno tests... Don't buy electronic snake oil.
