hey guys, getting ready to fire my new engine up this weekend and have a couple of questions:

1) There is an un-capped port just under the flame arrestor on the fuel inlet side of my 1409 carb, should this be capped? What's it used for?

2) The fuel in my tank has been in there since September of last year. I added some fuel stabilizer, you think it's ok to start this new engine with this fuel or should I drain and refill? It's about 50 gallons or so in there.

3) Can my heat exchanger be taken to the local radiator shop and be flushed out without any harm or should I just flush it with the hose? It's only 2 years old, don't think it should be full of crap but just wanted to do a little PM.

thanks,
keith

1. It's for the clear line from the marine fuel pump that keeps a leaking diaphram from leaking into the bilge and killing you in a horrid explosion.

2. Ought to be fine....there's 60 gallons of stabilized last seasons fuel in my boat every spring

3. If you are not having issues, I would just hose it out (reverse)

Thanks, I'll just cap that port since I have an electric fuel pump.

Horrid???

agree with all the above. If you have issues with your heat exchanger or the like, I've had good luck with a local radiator shop boiling out heatr exchangers, oil coolers, making repairs on them, etc... for future reference...

Plug that port, my boat mechanic used that port to route in the pcv system and causing full mainfold vacumn to the motor. Not good. The crank main seals tightened up and caused a horrible squeal noise.
