I think I may be needed to replace the engine in the OMC Turbojet 115 boat I just bought.
I have an engine hoist and full set of tools so I think replacing it won't be too hard.
Doing research I have read some but do not understand the differences between the outboard and inboard power heads.

I found a used powerhead on ebay for $700 near my house but it came off and outboard engine, can I use this on and if so what needs to be modified.

Thank you guys for your help and knowledge.

I really want to get this little boat going as this is the last year of my life that I will most likely be able to own a boat (I am not dying, just selling everything I own and going to travel the country in a motorhome)

What year is your current 115 and what year is the replacement. I think if the years are close it should work!!

Mine is a 1998

I am looking at a few different replacements.

I understand that there is an adapter plate that is mounted to my block which I will have to move over.

I read a post somewhere that said there are differences in the cooling system.

I do not want to spend a bunch of money and then have cooling issues.

I wish I could post links here so I could show the engines I am looking at to see it you think they will work or not.

This is from the ad of the one I found. It is close enough to me that I can drive and pick it up.

"this is from a 1991 , 88hp V-4 johnson. the model number is L88MSLEIM. this has 120 on every cyl, they are all exactly the same. this was a low hour motor. this would make a good replacemt power head. it should fit most V-4 johnson and evinrude motors of this era. 85 hp up to 115 hp."

Asking $900

Your outboard powerhead is mounted as an inboard.--------Thus there are a few different rules / regulations that apply to the fuel system.---------When doing the swap pay close attention to all parts and pieces that apply to the fuel system.

So as long as I copy the way everything is setup on the old motor I will be ok?

Any cooling system changes?

My plan would be to disconnect the electrical, fuel, and throttle cables.

Put the old motor on the bench next to the new motor.

Then move the systems over changing the fuel lines to new along with any gaskets you all recommend.

Would this be a good procedure?

2 ways.----Use the 3 holes 5/16-NF thread in the flywheel.-----Or remove flywheel nut and screw on a lifting eye.----Can't remember which I used when I pulled that Turbojet engine out of my boat.

The drive shaft length changed in 92 or so (not sure exactly which year), so check that first, it may or may not create a problem.

Well Poo.

So you are referring to the crankshaft on the bottom of the engine, right?

My motor is a 98 and the donor motor is a 91

How can I find if they are the same besides pulling the motor? I would rather have both motors here before I pull this one but if I have to then I will pull it first.

The drive shaft comes up and slides into the crankshaft, there was a slight change in length. Look at a parts diagram for a 98 and the 91 and see if the drive shaft has the same part number. It may be tricky to find a parts diagram for a 98, so look at a 96 or 97.

My driveshaft would be part of the jet drive, correct?

I am looking to just replace the powerhead.

If someone could help me that would be so great.

I have the part numbers for both units

Mine is a
11STJEUC

replacement is a
J88MSLEIM

Are those interchangable?

I am just buying the long block and using all my bolt on items.

The crank may be different, that's why the drive shaft from the different years are different, you need to see if a 98 normal motor and 91 normal motor use the same drive shaft, or if your crank is the same part number as the 91.

The shaft in your pump may not be the correct length for the older motor, so you need to somehow confirm it will work. I think the parts diagram says how long each shaft is, the longer one can be ground down to fit in the other style motor, but it's hard to make the shaft longer.

Where can I find this parts diagram?
