Does anyone know what the size of pipe threads are on the nylon-plastic elbow that comes from the water jacket on a 1998 Mercury 60hp. 3 cyl engine and connects to the hose that goes to the tell tail? Also would there be any problem by just using a straight pipe nipple and going right through the casting and bypassing the hose and elbow? The reason I have thought about going that way is because I run in the Missouri river with a lot of sand and with the elbow it has a habit of plugging up but with the straight pipe it could go straight out of the engine with les chance of plugging.

Is the elbow that's there on your engine a 45 or 90 degree turn as there seems to be 2 sizes listed....Item number 38, http://www.mercruiserparts.com/bam/s.../28191/571/150

For sizing, The below info is the best I can find as far as actual listed sizes.
FITTING Elbow 45 Degree (1.25) (#22-782792), http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Mercury-...-/121538096654
Elbow 90 Degree (.125-27 x .250) 22-996642, http://www.crowleymarine.com/parts/4977.cfm

The elbow is a 90 degree and there is where the problem is when you happen to get into sand it's hard to get the sand & water around the 90 degrees without pluging. up the line.

Thanks for the reply's I think I've got the problem solved. Rethreaded the fitting and seems like it will work fine. I don't use the form much but every time I have I have found out what I needed to know. Thanks again
