elec fuel pump and the gas in oil saga cont.

I have a 2 bbl Holley with an electric fuel pump. Well the gas into oil has been narrowed down to the carb drowning the engine. I rebuilt the carb ( incl. new needle, seat, and float) It still wont idle and runs rough. The gas coming out of the venturi is a stream. I unplugged the power plug to the fuel pump with the engine running, after a few seconds of running rough the RPMs take off and it runs great until to float empties. I'm have to now assume that the problem is either the pump pumping too much pressure or the new float, needle and seat are not working properly. Could anyone tell me how the elec. pump regulates its pressure, I assume its internal mechanism that cant be fixed, but Im just one of those guys that has to know how it works. I gonna get a pressure tester tomorrow. but I'd still like to know whats going on inside it. thanks. To DonS. I know that you asked me last week if I had checked the pressure, well as Ive seen others say before, Im sorry I questioned your wisdom.

When you cleaned and rebuilt the Holly carb, did you use the factory repair kit, or an aftermarket brand?

An electric pump is designed for a certain fuel pressure and nothing is adjustable. As long as you have the factory pump (not someone's replacement), then the carb flooding is because of an internal problem or mis-assembly.

Did you replace the power valve on the carb with one with the same #'s on it?

How long has the electric fuel pump been installed?

Im gonna asume that the fuel pump is origional. I used the kit that my local Four Winns dealer sells. It was a Volvo Penta kit. And seeing as this is a learning process, I again ASSumed that the power valve was correct and tossed the old one without looking to see if the matched. Many times since then I've looked at the new power valve and wondered... So, can anyone tell me if there is anyway the pump could have failed and now be sending MORE pressure than it should? Im gonna check the pressure next. Thanks, Everyone.

Without a fuel pressure check, nobody can tell you for sure what to go after next.

Problem Solved! Frst a thanks to Keith, DonS, Luckypenny, and the rest of the crew, without you pointing me in the right direction who knows how long this could have taken. The problem was in the origional rebuild kit. It was the wrong one! on some models the carb has a VENT TUBE that runs from the fuel body to the carb body, on mine the tube is replaced by structures in each component. the gasket provided in the kit was for the former. Consequently with the wrong gasket fuel had no restriction and was flowing directly into the intake thru the accelerator pump port, thus extremely rich. I got the correct one in there and she now runs perfectly. Thanks again to all for helping me work thru this problem.
